Sustainability Report 2023

Attention to people, closeness to our communities and environmental protection represent the main guidelines on which our sustainability path has been developing for more than 5 years and which give substance to our mission: to share with the world all the goodness of bakery, not only in terms of product quality and compliance with strict food safety protocols but also in terms of social and environmental responsibility.

A commitment that embraces all company functions, which is placed in a very precise space in the Morato Group’s agenda and which represents the guarantee of a growth consistent with our identity and values.

Today, having reached the 4th edition of the Sustainability Report, we inaugurate a new journey.

For the first time, we gather in this document the commitment of all Group offices, in Italy, Spain and France. It is also a milestone achieved thanks to the consolidation of the role of the Sustainability Committee, a strategic reference point for defining shared objectives and for giving form and substance to the word ‘sustainability’, making it concrete, tangible, within everyone’s reach.

Creating a culture of sustainability at all levels is a commitment that we have embraced and that translates into numerous training initiatives, which represent a powerful tool for involvement and activation.

Between June 2023 and June 2024, we delivered more than 800 hours of training to develop our awareness and skills in the various areas of sustainability, with a focus on what each of us can concretely do. Through training, we want to promote a corporate culture in which every employee feels actively involved in change and can contribute innovative ideas and sustainable solutions.

Here are some highlights:

  • Starting with innovation, which is a very strong driving force for our Group, more than EUR 3.7 million were invested in research and development in 2023 alone, with the aim of bringing new products to life and improving existing ones. Many launches have been in the healthy food field, i.e. close to people’s wellbeing, responding to a plurality of needs and increasingly personalised eating styles.
  • Innovation also concerned packaging. We are completing the transition of all packaging to 100% recyclable materials with a lower plastic content, a goal we have set ourselves to complete within the next two years.
  • We have launched an investment plan of more than EUR 3 million for the installation of photovoltaic systems over the next 2 years. This will reduce the impact in terms of CO2 emissions by 2,474 tonnes. The goal is to go from a current production from renewable sources of 3% of the electricity needs to 15% by 2026.
  • On the training front, over 5,000 hours of training (in addition to all compulsory safety training) were provided last year alone, involving all function teams. We also strengthened our collaboration with CUOA Business School and with many local high schools.
  • We supported numerous projects in the area to promote sport, the culture of prevention and inclusiveness. Our partners include Telethon, Fondazione Veronesi, Bambini delle Fate, AISM (Italian Multiple Sclerosis Association), and Banco Alimentare.
